Much more of an Old Firps feel to this game and a 100% record for Vice-Captain Andrew Holden. There was a welcome return by Martin Hanstock and the wanderer returned to the scene of his highest Old Firps score in the shape of Andy Luff, received with open arms given our current wicket keeping problems with the missing Jason 'The Invisible Man' Hutchinson. Come on Jase, give us a call!
Winning the toss in his debut as Old Firps captain, Andrew put the opposition in on a mossy looking track which actually behaved much better than it looked. Bassetlaw had only nine men (and less than that initially) and only one class bat. Had Andy Luff had him caught behind very early on, it would have been a juggling act for Mr Holden to let Bassetlaw reach any sort of score. As it was, the bowling rotations worked well in allowing a manageable target of 144 to be set in Firps' innings.
A tight opening spell by Bassetlaw's two main bowlers kept Old Firps reply to just 26 from the first 10 overs, but with the change bowling and the bad ball becoming more frequent, Firps increased their scoring to more than meet the asking rate and, despite a flurry of wickets, ran out winners with 5 overs and 4 wickets to spare.
