A fine end to the season and the current skipper's two-year stint. Losing the toss and being inserted, Firps made heavy weather of the lightweight Bakewell attack. A quickfire 31 from Alex Wigfield and a better than a run-a-ball 53 from Alan Wake allowed Old Firps to reach 196 from their 40 overs, but this was a rather poor total given the situation, and a target of around 250 really should have been set.
All this proved rather academic after the first ball of the Bakewell innings, as their only real batsman was dismissed by a stunning catch at first slip by the Captain. Restricting the bowlers to a maximum of 6 overs meant that, following the extremely tidy bowling of the opening four, it was time to give the crowd some comedy value, and Martin Hanstock and Mark Banister duly obliged with their usual mix of full tosses, double bouncers and normal blend of mirth and mayhem. The match was put to bed by the skipper to end a successful and very enjoyable season.
