After the debacle of the previous weekend, Firps returned to form to post an excellent win against the mighty Hallam. Match report by Mark Banister:
"Despite having 11 men for this match Old Firps thought they would be up against it as Hallam included 4 first X1 players as well as 5 youngsters ( watch out Denzil). Hallam elected to bat and were going along merrily at around 4 runs per over aided by dropped catches off both opening bowlers. Jon Gibson then realised what to do and in one over had a batsman caught, the next had their skipper stumped ( Jason being 10 yds behind the wicket) but failed on the hat trick ball. He had a wicket on the next ball. This started a collapse and even Kassell was on a hat trick ball. Paul Garner finished their innings with 3 wickets and Dean still can't believe it!! Hallam 154 all out
Old Firps batting began steadily and two quick wickets fell ( Denzil should really watch these 11 year olds bowling) Jason and Martin took the score to 59. Banno and Jason put on a further 44 and thanks to a slog of 16 in 3 balls by Stasi Old firps reached the target comfortably. Point to note for future skippers, if the wicket is close to a boundary wall, DO NOT use a new ball. This on is still on its way to Rivelin Valley. "
