Faith in human nature was restored as the toerags of Hallam made way for an excellent group of players in the form of a Bassetlaw XI.
A match played throughout in an excellent spirit, with playing adjustments as necessary to provide a more inclusive and competitive game, resulted in another Firps defeat which proved enjoyable nonetheless.
Winning the toss and fielding, Old Firps worked hard in the field and perhaps were a little unlucky to concede the 192 runs put on by the Bassetlaw XI. Airborne shots not going to hand and not a lot of fortune goning their way, the total looked about 40 runs too many and so it proved, with only three Firparnians reaching double figures in Firps' reply.
A thoroughly enjoyable fixture which hopefully can become a regular one. Praise also for Danny Gilbanks' excellent performance behind the stumps - but don't tell his Mum!
